Why I Swapped Boardrooms for Care Homes

Hi, I’m Scott Jebb, Managing Director of Together Livin here in Doncaster.

Not too long ago, my life looked very different. I was running businesses—focused on growth targets, efficiency, and systems. I enjoyed it, but deep down, I always knew I wanted to do something more meaningful. I’ve seen first-hand how hard it can be for families navigating the world of autism, learning disabilities, and care. And I thought… what if I could bring everything I know about running a business into an industry that desperately needs strong foundations and heart?

That’s where the idea for our supported living service was born.

Today, I’m proud to say we’re doing care and supported living in Doncaster a little differently—combining business structure with true, person-centred compassion.

The Problem with “Standard” Care

We’ve all heard the stories: staff shortages, rushed care, families feeling left out, and people with complex needs being misunderstood or overlooked.

When I started researching the sector, I saw it for myself. So many services were stretched thin, and even the most passionate care teams were being held back by broken systems.

That’s when I realised—care doesn't just need more compassion. It needs better organisation.
And that’s where my business background became useful.

A New Model: Compassion First, Backed by Structure

We Lead with Heart

At our core, everything we do is about understanding the individual.

We support people with autism and learning disabilities, and no two support plans look the same. Some of the people we support need routine down to the minute. Others thrive with flexibility. Some are verbal, some are not. Some communicate through their behaviour, and that means we have to listen differently.

I remember one young man who came to us with no formal communication tools, lots of anxiety, and a long history of being misunderstood. Within weeks of having consistent staff, quiet routines, and some basic visual aids, his whole demeanour changed. His mum told us she saw her son smiling again—for the first time in years.

It’s moments like that that remind me why we do this.

We Support the Team So They Can Support Others

Care workers are the beating heart of any supported living service. But so often, they’re under-supported themselves.

We do things differently:

  • Predictable rotas so staff have a good work-life balance
  • Training that goes beyond the basics—autism-specific, sensory training, low-arousal approaches
  • Clear communication channels—staff know what’s happening, what’s expected, and who to go to when they need help

A happy, confident support team makes for a calmer, safer environment. And that directly impacts the wellbeing of the people we care for.

How Business Knowledge Makes Care Better

Systems That Serve People (Not Paperwork)

This is where the "business brilliance" bit comes in.

In my previous career, I spent a lot of time building systems that helped people work smarter, not harder. I brought that into our supported living setup—not to make things corporate, but to make sure nothing falls through the cracks.

That includes:

  • Simple, secure digital logs for recording care and progress
  • Clear handover systems so staff know each person’s needs that day
  • Family updates built into our process, so you're never left in the dark

These tools don’t replace relationships—they enhance them.

A Service That’s Built to Last

We’re not a one-size-fits-all provider trying to scale quickly. We grow when we’re ready, making sure quality comes first.

Just like in business, I believe in sustainable growth:

  • We reinvest in our homes and team
  • We review and improve constantly
  • We plan for the long-term, not just today

Because the people we support deserve consistency—not just now, but for years to come.

Care and Supported Living in Doncaster: Why We’re Here

Doncaster Deserves Better Options

There’s no shortage of people in Doncaster who need quality supported living—what’s been lacking is the right kind of service.

We’re here to change that.

Too often, people are moved out of area, or placed into homes that don’t really suit their needs. Families feel out of the loop. Support feels like a system, not a partnership.

We’re building something better. And we’re doing it right here, because local people should have local options they can trust.

What Makes Us Different

Let me sum up a few things that set us apart:

  • We tailor care to the individual, every single time
  • We involve families and professionals in meaningful ways
  • We train our team thoroughly, and then keep developing them
  • We use smart systems to make care more consistent and communication stronger
  • We genuinely care—and we’re in this for the right reasons

We’re not perfect—but we’re proud of what we’ve built, and always looking to improve.

Looking Forward

We’ve got plans to expand—but always with care and quality at the centre.

Whether that means opening more homes in Doncaster, building stronger partnerships with professionals, or refining our training and systems—we’re committed to making supported living better.

If you're someone looking for care and supported living in Doncaster—whether for a loved one, a client, or yourself—I’d love for you to get in touch. Come and see what we do, meet the team, and get a feel for the environment we’ve created.

Final Thoughts

This isn’t just a business to me—it’s a mission. And every smile, every breakthrough moment, every message from a relieved parent confirms that we’re doing something worthwhile.

Thank you for taking the time to read about what we do. I hope it’s given you a clearer picture of how we combine heartfelt support with solid structure—right here in Doncaster.

If you're ready to find out more, or just want a chat about options, the door’s always open.

Warm regards,
Scott Jebb
